The media has pointed out that Snowden did not graduate high school, implying, perhaps, that he could not be intelligent enough to pull this off, as if a high diploma is a sign of intelligence. Perhaps, the media is implying that someone should not have access to secret documents without a high school diploma, as if that should be grounds to deny secret clearance. I don’t see that the level of education has anything to do with this issue.
I believe that Hollywood is partly to blame. There have been too many movies about the government secretly acting against citizens and the hero exposes the secret. Movies like that inspire people to act not always in the best interest of the country. First, let me say that there are no such things as government secrets. It is an oxymoron. The government has never been able to keep a secret. The government invented the atomic bomb and could not keep it a secret. This secret
surveillance would have become known eventually.
