Today is day 7 of the National Novel Writing Month (http://www.namowrimo.org/) contest. So far so good. The
goal is 50,000 words by the end of the month, and I am on schedule to finish. I am writing a historical novel. I will tell you more later.
Here is an update on The Mayor Rob Ford scandal. You recall that he is the mayor of Toronto. He still has not been charged with a crime, won’t resign, and, as far I as know, is not under investigation by an ethics committee. Let’s review the facts:
1. He smoked cocaine. He says it was a year ago. He
confessed. Apparently, the city of Toronto lacks a good drug policy.
2. He gets drunk. Again, he admits it.
3. He denied the incident initially and lied about it.
4. The police have arrested one of Ford's friends on drug charges.
5. Rob Ford clearly has addition issues including food additions. He is in denial about them. (click to tweet)
6. He lacks sound judgment, is unethical, and is dishonest.
Good qualities for a mayor, I guess. In spite of the scandal, his approval ratings have actually
increased.
I wrote about leaders needing sound judgment in my e-book, Leadership for New Managers: Book Two, http://smashwords.com/b/300090. Here is what I said:
Sound judgment contributes to an ability to determine possible courses of action and decide the best action to take. Before choosing, leader/managers must consider the consequences. Like mental agility, it is a critical part of problem solving and decision-making.
If Ford lacks sound judgment and honesty, how can he be an effective leader who makes ethical and critical decisions as mayor?
You may have heard the news about the firing of a woman because she was too attractive. That incident was a revelation for me. That explains why I have not been hired after being unemployed for over two years. I am just too attractive to hire. If you don’t believe me, just look at my pictures. I also have a video on my web site. I am now in the process of reviewing all my photographs in an effort to make myself less attractive. It’s not easy being so good looking.
In the past, I have had e-mails simply disappear. I always assumed they went into the black hole of the internet. Now it appears that the NSA has copies of them. I am using the Freedom of Information Act to request copies of my lost e-mails. They know which ones I mean.
