San Diego Mayor Bob Filner says it is the city’s fault for his sex harassment problems, because they never provided him with any sexual harassment training. That headline is wrong on so many levels. I think that Filner already knew how to do sexual harassment. He did not need further instructions. Who taught him sexual harassment? Was he self-taught? I think he means that the city never taught him not to use sexual harassment. I am guessing that the city has a sexual harassment policy, but as mayor, Filner did not feel a need to read it (http://clicktotweet.com/04A6P). Filner’s lawyer says that the city is liable for failing to prevent sexual harassment. He may be correct on that account. It is hard to believe that he harassed eight women and none complained prior to this lawsuit. That is the unanswered question – how many complaints were filed against Filner. Filner’s lawyer is saying that without the training, Filner is too stupid to figure that harassing women is not right (http://clicktotweet.com/V1aHk).
Filner’s lawyer also said that Filner never received any sexual harassment training while serving in Congress, 1993 - 2012. I think he did not need it, since he could learn from the best. Anthony Weiner was in Congress at the same time. Many great master of sexual harassment are elected to Congress. Of course, that means that Filner never had any leadership training, which would include setting the example and treating employees with dignity. I wonder how San Diego elected him Mayor.
On a different subject, a headline read that Florida police shot an unarmed man 15 times. However, when you read the article, you discover that is not true. It is a bit of sensationalism on the part of the news media. The victim was shot only a couple of times. The rest of the bullets hit the car, the fence, and who knows what else. The whole police marksmanship program is brought into question. Oh, did I mention the victim was unarmed? They would have been better using rocks.
